Eating and going out alone in Nice: the evenings that actually work
A solo evening is easier when there is a reason to be there. The goal is not to find a “safe women’s bar”. It is to choose rooms where arriving alone is normal and the night already has a shape.

Build the evening around an activity, then add the drink. A film, opera, comedy set or jazz room gives the night shape without forcing you to “go out alone” as an event in itself.
Five useful solo-evening formats
Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur
Opera, ballet and concerts turn an evening alone into a normal ticketed night out. The building sits by the Old Town, so the return can stay central.
Cinéma Jean-Paul Belmondo
Small art-house screens, international films and original-language programming on Place Garibaldi. Almost designed for a spontaneous solo evening.
Bobar Comedy Club
A compact comedy room in the Old Town. Its current programme includes occasional English comedy, so non-French speakers should check the language before booking.
Shapko
Live music every night, starting late. Good when you want the music to do the social work; less good if your plan is an early night.
Les Copines de Nice
A local women’s events community. Use it when you actively want company.
Wine without the performance
For a glass rather than a “night out”, the Old Town and Port/Garibaldi areas have small wine bars where arriving alone is unremarkable. Two addresses worth checking on the day are Cave Tambour in the Old Town and Cave Romagnan, a long-running wine/jazz address nearer the station. Hours and music nights change, so trust Maps or Instagram over a static promise.
Eating alone: make the room work for you
- Lunch is the easiest first solo meal: less ceremony, more local rhythm.
- A counter, bar seat or terrace edge gives you something to look at without burying yourself in your phone.
- For a special dinner, book it. A reservation makes “one person” the plan.
- If a restaurant makes you feel awkward for dining alone, that is a restaurant problem.
