What to do in Nice when it rains
It is raining. Hu! You paid for the Côte d’Azur and the sky has ignored your booking. What a mistake.
Yes, it rains in Nice. Do not look so betrayed, pichoun. Dégun sold you 365 days of blue sky. The city has had centuries to prepare, and several of its best museums can save the day without you sulking in a shopping centre.

Matisse or Chagall in the morning, lunch in town, Lascaris or photography in the afternoon, then a drink. There. Three drops of rain are not going to ruin your holiday.
Give one major museum proper time rather than collecting entrances.
Old Nice or the Carré d’Or keeps the day walkable.
Compact, central and easy to combine without turning rain into admin.
1. Matisse Museum
In Cimiez, in a Genoese villa surrounded by olive trees. Careful: the museum is closed until 20 October 2026 inclusive to prepare Henri Matisse - Alex Katz. The Silence of Painting, on show from 28 October 2026 to 18 January 2027. Between 21 and 27 October, the museum does not say what is on view: check its website. After that, 10 am to 6 pm until 31 October, 10 am to 5 pm from 1 November, and still closed on Tuesdays. Mèfi (watch out): discovering that last detail at the locked door, looking thoroughly empégué, does not improve the weather.

4. Charles Nègre Photography Museum
Beside Cours Saleya. Small enough to combine with lunch, serious enough to justify the visit. Right now: “Youkine Lefèvre - Lone Islands” until 8 November, and “Sabine Weiss - Une vie de photographe” from 16 October to 31 January 2027. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.

And MAMAC?
Closed since January 2024 for major renovation connected with the Promenade du Paillon extension. The work will take several years. If an old blog sends you there, Mèfi: watch out. Whoever wrote it may also have excellent advice on fax machines.
