Villa Arson
An art school, an exhibition centre and architecture that gives you as much reason to look outside as inside.
Mametas CheckedPractical information rechecked 15 October 2026
MAMETAS SAYS
A good way to move beyond the Matisse-Chagall-Old-Nice trio without adding a museum just to fill the schedule. Villa Arson has real character and the art centre is free.
Why we go
Villa Arson combines a national art school with a contemporary art centre. The programme changes, but the architecture, terraces and gardens already make it a destination in its own right.
What to actually look at
The temporary exhibitions, but also the building itself: concrete, stone, patios and views over Nice. Here the setting deserves almost as much attention as the art.

Pick it for contemporary art and architecture. On a very short first trip, Matisse or Chagall still come first.
